He survived his formative years amid the barren, untamed wastelands of southern Illinois, fending off the savage depredations of the local barbarian inhabitants. Seizing upon a stroke of fortune, Tracy tagged along with a band of transient wayfarers bound for the sweltering shores of the American South in the prison state of Georgia. There, among the verdant festoons of Spanish moss and the reek of fetid swamps and noxious paper manufacturers, Tracy was inducted into the clandestine ranks of the art instruction syndicate know to polite society as The Savannah College of Art and Design.
